WYNDHAM COMMUNITY & INTERGRATED FAMILY CENTRE

  • Project Status: Construction
  • Project Update: Defect works are continuing. Access road and footpath works have commenced off Cortland Street.
  • Expected Completion: Late 2019

The Wunggurrwil Dhurrung Centre and the Integrated Family Centre is a major project that is underway and is expected to be completed this year. It will include two co-located community facilities. The Integrated Family Centre that will provide much-needed early years and family support to local families as well as the broader community, including family and early intervention services for vulnerable groups. This facility will deliver community spaces, kindergarten rooms, maternal child health consulting rooms, office space, and consulting rooms that will cater to the growing needs of the Wyndham community.

In addition, the Community Centre will:

  • Help build community capacity
  • Address the service needs of the local people
  • Provide pathways to education, training and employment.

This $13.2 million Wyndham project is supported by:

  • $1.5 million grant made available through the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund.
  • $1.6 million grant from the Department of Education and Training’s Children’s Facilities Capital Program.
  • $60,000 from the Department of Health and Human Services’ Men’s Shed Program.

MAJOR ROAD UPGRADES

HACKETTS ROAD UPGRADE

$3.5 million for the upgrade of Hacketts Road

Works are progressing on the upgrade of Hacketts Road, between Aviation Road and Tamworth Grove. Road pavement works are currently underway, and we are on track for completion in the final quarter of 2019.

This $4 million Wyndham City project will see the road widened and sealed, and the intersection at Aviation and Hacketts roads upgraded.

The upgrade will consist of two new slip lanes at Aviation Road for cars turning left and right, which will improve safety and improve traffic flow.

THAMES BOULEVARD UPGRADE

$3,944,996 for the reconstruction of Thames Boulevard, Tarneit

  • Project Status: Tender
  • Project Update: Construction works are out to tender.
  • Expected Completion: Early 2020  

Wyndham City is reconstructing Thames Boulevard, between Brentwood Drive and Esquire Place in Tarneit with an estimated budget of around $4 million designated to this project. Works on this stretch will see 1.3 kilometres of road completely reconstructed, and improvements to drainage with a smoother and sealed roadway leading to a safer journey with improved travel time. The works will be delivered in three or four stages – most likely between roundabouts – in order to close sections of the road to complete works sooner.

REDEVELOPMENT OF WYNDHAM VALE PARKS

  • Project Update: Parks upgrades scheduled for 2018/2019 are near completion with some playground upgrades to be finished by August 2019. Planning and design underway for park upgrades scheduled in 2019/2020.  
  • Expected Completion: Mid 2020  

The Wyndham Parks 2021 Project with a budget of $6.94 million in total aims to make parks more accessible, safer, comfortable and welcoming to everyone. Parks are the heart of any community. That’s why the Wyndham Vale City Council is looking to provide more opportunities for outdoor recreation and sporting activities through major projects such as the Wyndham Park redevelopment, more localised projects such as upgrading the Little River tennis courts and kick-starting a number of master plans across the City for future active open space projects. Meanwhile, another 50 neighbourhood parks across the City will be upgraded through the plantation of additional trees and garden beds over 2019/20 through the Wyndham Parks 2021 project and pedestrian and bicycle access in and around the City will be improved to create a less car-dependent Wyndham. The $3.3 million project will upgrade 47 local parks throughout Wyndham this year.

THE BRIDGE HOTEL

The company behind some of Melbourne’s best food and beverage venues has been selected as the operator of the Bridge Hotel.

The operators of a string of high-quality food and beverage venues in Melbourne will soon be coming to Werribee, revamping an existing Watton Street hotel with a new bar and restaurant.

After an extensive and detailed procurement process, Wyndham City Council have selected The MoL Pub Group to operate the Council owned Bridge Hotel. The MoL Pub Group are the operators of Marquis of Lorne in Fitzroy, Union House in Richmond, and Mount Erica Hotel in Prahan, adding the Bridge Hotel to their portfolio of venues. Works to refurbish the Bridge Hotel will begin later this year, with the MoL Group transforming the site into a quality food and beverage venue that locals and visitors will be proud to frequent. The revamped venue will also pay tribute to the building’s heritage, retaining many original aspects of the structure and facade. The re-activation of the Bridge Hotel is another important part of the vision alongside other developments like the Holiday Inn to ensure that the Werribee City Centre is a more vibrant and exciting place for our residents and visitors.

There are already a range of fantastic businesses operating in the Werribee City Centre, and Wyndham City sees the re-activation of the Bridge Hotel as a high-quality food and beverage offering as a way of bringing more people into the City Centre.

$100 MILLION PROJECT – PROPOSED FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS

THE SUBURBAN RAIL LOOP

New metropolitan lines to Melton and Wyndham Vale would give Melbourne’s growing suburbs frequent high-capacity services on the metro network, and return regional rail lines to regional passengers, creating the potential to run faster services, giving our two busiest regional rail lines back to regional passengers and paving the way for fast rail from Geelong and Ballarat. A potential connection from Wyndham Vale to Werribee would also be considered – with the potential for this link to become the western section of the proposed Suburban Rail Loop.

New electrified metropolitan rail lines to Melton and Wyndham Vale is the next step to boosting capacity on the Victorian rail network. This will improve travel times, accommodate increasing patronage and deliver greater comfort for regional and metropolitan passengers.

THE WESTERN RAIL PLAN

Project Brief: Currently, $100 million is being invested in detailed planning and design work, to deliver the full separation of regional and metro services on the Geelong and Ballarat lines. Staging of the Western Rail Plan is being considered alongside the planning underway for the Melbourne Airport Rail business case, which is due in 2020.   The Western Rail Plan sets out the future investments Victoria needs for a fast, high-capacity rail network servicing our growing suburbs and growing regional cities. To ensure the Victorian rail network can continue to meet unprecedented demand and enable regional Victoria to grow and be a destination of choice, planning is needed for the following three major connected projects:

  • Two new electrified metro rail lines through the western suburbs to growth areas in Melton and Wyndham Vale. It would separate them from the Ballarat and Geelong lines.
  • A potential connection from Wyndham Vale to Werribee would also be considered. This link could potentially become the western section of the proposed Suburban Rail Loop.
  • Additional tracks between Sunshine and the CBD to cater for faster and more frequent metro and regional trains. This would most likely be a new tunnel that would be part of Melbourne iAirrport Rail.
  • Major investment in the Geelong and Ballarat lines to run trains faster than 160km/h. This will include exploration of electrification of these lines and new, fast electric regional trains.
